All Eyes on the ‘Kitty” at Milton of Campsie Bowling Club
Posted by Lillyburn Care Home
Lillyburn’s sporting maintenance man John gave the resident’s a treat today when he invited them along for lunch and to watch a fast-paced game of bowls between the members at The Milton of Campsie Bowling Club. The trip brought back happy memories for some of the residents who were former members themselves and particularly for Bill, who used to live opposite the bowling club; he certainly enjoyed being back in familiar surroundings!
The club has a long history in the area, established after the 1914/18 war by some of the local men. With no money available, the possibility of creating the club seemed remote, but with caps in hand, two or three of the men approached the laird. Fortunately, they were successful in their mission and they were given the deeds of what is still the site of the present-day bowling green, which continues to provide a wonderful facility for the community.
