Scottish Care Award Winners 2017

Tracey Dickson from Mosswood Care Home, Linwood and John Hood from Lillyburn Care Home in Kirkintilloch celebrated on Friday night when they won awards at the prestigious Scottish Care Awards, held at the Hilton Hotel in Glasgow. Tracey, who was awarded the Ancillary and Support Staff Award and John, who received the Emerging Talent Award were joined by colleagues who supported and cheered them on throughout the night.
Scottish Care’s Annual Care Home Awards is an opportunity to recognise the tremendous work undertaken by organisations and staff who work in residential care and nursing home services. This is a chance to highlight the skills, dedication and abilities of the many talented individuals and organisations who are dedicated to making life better for people and in supporting them to achieve their fullest potential.
Mosswood Care Home Manager, Pauleen Stevenson who nominated Tracey said:
“I nominated Tracey Dickson for the Ancillary and Support Staff Award as she is an integral and popular part of the support team here in Mosswood Care Home. In fact, Tracey was the first staff member to be employed at Mosswood Care Home. The qualities that Tracey possessed soon flourished and it was quickly apparent that she would be an ideal addition to the staffing structure within our new home. In her role as Housekeeper Tracey demonstrates her hunger and desire to achieve a high level of professionalism and service. She performs as close to perfection as I feel is possible for any individual I have had the pleasure of working with. In addition to this, Tracey’s other qualities bring a whole new level of interaction for our service users and without question improves quality of care for our residents.”
Lillyburn Care Home Manager, Claire Selbie who nominated John said:
“John was nominated in the Emerging Talent category and works with Lillyburn as a handyman, carrying out maintenance within the home. Over the past year, John has taken more of an interest in the care home as a whole and has built up strong relationships with residents and relatives alike. John is an integral part of our Practice Development Group, where key members of the team meet to discuss how we can change practice within the care home. He enjoys meeting residents and relatives on admission to the care home, to settle them in and ensure their bedrooms are personalised the way they want. He goes above and beyond his role and spends time sitting with residents who are distressed, offering comfort and distraction on top of his other duties. In addition, he supports staff in the Playlist for Life Programme, encouraging and helping them complete the course and gives up his free time to help with the evening events at the home. John is well liked by staff, residents, relatives and visitors and there are numerous compliments received.”
