National Poetry Day
Posted by Lillyburn Care Home
National Poetry Day is a UK wide celebration of poetry, it generates an explosion of activity nationwide where thousands of amazing events take place in schools, libraries, hospitals, book shops – all celebrating poetry’s power to bring people together.
Today Kirkintilloch High School helped Lillyburn to celebrate in their own special way. Children read out their own funny and sad poems, which keep residents entertained. Members of staff also got involved by reciting poems both old and new. Afterwards, we got together young and old to enjoy tea, cake and conversation.
Kirkintilloch High School’s English teacher, Mr Frank Quadrelli said “what a great way to celebrate Poetry Day. The children enjoy coming to Lillyburn very much and we are keen to look at other ways the school kids could get involved in other aspects of meaningful engagement with care home residents.”
