Musical Memories
Posted by Birdston Care Home
Residents enjoyed an afternoon of song and reminiscence as they attended Musical Memories, a group set up for people with dementia and their carers.
The group aims to utilise music to help those suffering with dementia to reminisce about their past. The “singing for the brain” club sings songs from yesteryear to stimulate the brain and provides a relaxing atmosphere for participants.
It is now recognised that the part of the brain which helps us recall ‘melody’ and song ‘words’ often escapes severe damage caused by different kinds of dementia. Pacific Care have enabled Playlist For Life in all care homes and are one of the first care providers in Scotland to comprehensively incorporate Playlist For Life into dementia care.
A ‘Playlist For Life' is all the songs or pieces of music that make up the soundtrack of your life. The tunes that give you that 'flashback-feeling' whenever you hear them and can take you back to another time or place.
Before making Birdston his new home, Donnie attended the group on a regular basis and was delighted to be back at his favourite club. He received a round of applause when he arrived from his friends at the group and enjoyed a wonderful day with them.
