Dignity In Care
Posted by Birdston Care Home
Dignity is absolutely a fundamental part of residential care. Whoever the resident is, whatever their background, situation or circumstance, it goes without saying that every single resident should be treated with the utmost dignity, respect and compassion.
As part of their awareness day staff held a coffee morning and asked residents to put pen to paper and tell us exactly what dignity means to them. Our dining room was abuzz with activity and everyone enjoyed tea, coffee and some yummy home baking as they discussed and wrote down what mattered to them as individuals.
We will be displaying our resident's notes on our dignity tree which is located in the reception area.
Marie Galligan said “person-controlled care is what we are aiming to achieve with events like this. We are all individuals with different likes, dislikes and ways of living and in order to provide truly person led care we need to be empathetic and ensure that we have a really good knowledge of our residents. This can only be achieved by ensuring that our main focus is holistic.”
