Ex-Football Pro Hosts Charity Match in Memory of His Father, a Former Lillyburn Resident

At Pacific Care, we take immense pride in the compassionate care provided at all our homes, where we have supported many families through their journeys with dementia. One such family is that of Stuart Taylor, the former professional footballer and Dundee FC assistant manager, whose late father, Alex Taylor, was a resident in Lillyburn’s Kintyre Unit.

Stuart is now giving back by organising Shooting Stars, a special charity football match on Sunday, March 2nd, 2025, at Falkirk Stadium, in aid of Alzheimer Scotland. This incredible event aims to raise funds and awareness for those affected by dementia, a cause close to Stuart’s heart.

A Personal Story Behind the Cause

Stuart recently shared his family’s emotional journey in The Herald, detailing how his father’s battle with Alzheimer’s changed their lives. Initially, his dad would forget small details—using the phrase “Thingmy” to fill in the gaps—but as the illness progressed, daily life became increasingly challenging.

During his father’s time at Lillyburn Care Home, Stuart witnessed first-hand the compassionate care that our dedicated team provided. He expressed deep gratitude for the staff at Kintyre Unit, saying:

“I’m giving back and saying thank you with this event. The staff were absolutely fantastic and very, very helpful during the whole experience. I couldn't thank them enough. It is the reason for doing this game, for giving back and saying thank you.

"Lillyburn just felt right, and that comes from the atmosphere the staff create. Even just making his room homely—it's all the little details that made the difference. Staff were just really great with my dad and other residents.”

Shooting Stars: A Football Match for a Meaningful Cause

Billed as Scotland’s version of Soccer Aid, Shooting Stars will see famous faces battle it out on the pitch to raise vital funds to support dementia care, research, and improvements in brain health. Managing the Scotland side will be former Rangers manager and Scotland captain Graeme Souness, while Finnish former professional footballer and manager Mixu Paatelainen will take the helm for the Rest of the World team.

The match will feature a host of sporting legends and celebrities, including:

    • Former Scotland goalie Allan McGregor
    • Former Scotland forward James McFadden
    • Former Celtic and West Ham striker Frank McAvennie
    • Former Scotland midfielder James McArthur
    • Ex-Celtic defender Rudi Vata
    • Former Rangers and Scotland player Lee McCulloch
    • Comedian and Still Game star Sanjeev Kohli

Tickets are available for just £5 for adults, with free entry for under-18s. Gates open at 11 am. You can book your tickets here.
